Air India Fined ₹1 Crore by DGCA for Flying Aircraft with Expired Airworthiness Certificate

India’s national carrier Air India has been fined ₹1 crore by the country’s aviation watchdog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), for operating an aircraft despite its airworthiness review certificate having expired in November.

According to the regulator, the lapse constituted a serious compliance violation under aviation safety norms. Airworthiness review certificates are mandatory documents that confirm an aircraft meets all required safety and maintenance standards before being cleared for operation.

The DGCA stated that strict adherence to regulatory requirements is non-negotiable and that airlines must ensure continuous monitoring of certification validity. The penalty highlights the regulator’s emphasis on maintaining operational safety and accountability within India’s aviation sector.

Air India has not publicly indicated whether it will contest the fine but is expected to review internal compliance procedures to prevent similar lapses in the future.
