Indian Army troops foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, killing two terrorists in an encounter based on intelligence inputs.
Two Terrorists Killed in Failed Infiltration Bid in J&K’s Kupwara
According to a statement from the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, the operation was launched late on Friday (November 7) after specific intelligence inputs indicated that armed militants were attempting to cross into Indian territory from across the LoC.
“Based on credible intelligence inputs from multiple agencies regarding possible infiltration in the Keran sector, an operation was launched. Contact was established with the infiltrating terrorists, leading to an exchange of fire. Two terrorists were neutralized,” the Army said in an official release.
Arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores were recovered from the site. A search of the area was continuing to rule out the presence of additional infiltrators.
Officials said the identities and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are being ascertained, though preliminary information suggests they may have been part of a Pakistan-based outfit.
Heightened Vigil Along LoC
The latest infiltration attempt comes amid increased militant activity along the LoC ahead of winter, when heavy snowfall typically seals mountain passes used for cross-border movement.
Security forces have intensified patrolling and surveillance operations in the Kupwara, Baramulla, and Handwara sectors to prevent any infiltration before snow closes high-altitude routes.
Background
The Keran sector, located close to the LoC, has long been one of the key infiltration routes used by militant groups attempting to enter Jammu and Kashmir from across the border.
In recent months, several similar attempts have been foiled by the Indian Army, underscoring continued efforts by militants to push operatives into the Valley.
The Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict vigil and ensuring that “any attempt to disturb peace in the region is met with a strong and effective response.”
