Bombay High Court Orders Baramati Agro to Pay Half of Levy for Licence Approval

Mumbai, November 1, 2025: The Bombay High Court has instructed Baramati Agro, a company led by MLA Rohit Pawar, to deposit 50 percent of the disputed levy under three different categories within three days. The directive comes as part of an ongoing case concerning the company’s application for a sugarcane crushing licence.

The court clarified that once the partial payment is made, authorities may move forward with processing the firm’s licence, even as the main petition remains under judicial consideration.
Baramati Agro had challenged the government’s demand for the full levy amount, arguing that the charges were excessive and imposed without due justification. The High Court’s interim order offers temporary relief to the company while ensuring partial compliance with the state’s regulatory requirements.
The matter will next be heard after the court reviews the company’s payment compliance and the government’s response.
