Congress Questions Dhankhar’s Silence, Says Ex-Vice President Deserves Farewell Ceremony

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on X (formerly Twitter) that Dhankhar’s sudden resignation on July 21 had shocked the political establishment. “It was clear he was forced to quit, despite his frequent praise for the Prime Minister,” Ramesh claimed.

Ramesh added that since stepping down, Dhankhar — once a regular figure in political headlines — has remained “unseen and unheard.” He also noted that while the Opposition often clashed with him during his tenure as Rajya Sabha Chairman, it has consistently maintained that he deserves a dignified send-off, like all previous Vice Presidents.

The Congress further alleged that the official reason of health concerns cited by Dhankhar did not tell the full story, suggesting “deeper reasons” behind his exit.

Dhankhar, 74, who took office in August 2022, was scheduled to serve until 2027. His resignation came on the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, marking a rare moment in India’s political history.
