Olympian Shooter Shreyasi Singh Becomes Youngest Minister in Nitish Cabinet
Patna, November 21, 2025 – Shreyasi Singh, 34, an Olympian shooter and one of India’s most decorated sportswomen, has become the youngest minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. The two-term MLA from Jamui joins Bihar’s government, combining her sporting laurels with a rising political profile.
Daughter of the late Digvijay Singh, a former Union minister in the Chandra Shekhar government, and former MP Putul Kumari, Shreyasi’s first stage was not a political rally but the shooting range. She has lifted the Indian tricolour on international podiums long before taking her ministerial oath.
The 26-member cabinet, which includes 10 newcomers, retained senior leaders like Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Shrawan Kumar, Samrat Choudhary, and Vijay Kumar Sinha. Other new faces include Rama Nishad and Deepak Prakash.
Sporting Achievements
Shreyasi’s career is studded with milestones:
- Gold in Women’s Double Trap at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast
- Silver at Glasgow 2014
- Bronze at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon
- First player from Bihar to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics
- Arjuna Award recipient
- Gold medalist at the 61st National Shooting Championship
After being sworn in, she thanked her voters and pledged to work harder for her constituents. An MBA graduate from Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, Shreyasi enters the cabinet with assets of Rs 7.6 crore, liabilities of Rs 13.3 lakh, and an annual income of Rs 94.2 lakh. She is expected to handle the sports portfolio.
Shreyasi Singh now stands at a rare intersection of Olympic precision and political instinct, marking a promising new chapter in Bihar’s governance.
