PM Modi Flags Off Four New Vande Bharat Express Trains from Varanasi
Varanasi, November 8, 2025 —
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Banaras railway station in his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, marking another major step in India’s mission to modernize its railway network.
The newly launched semi-high-speed trains will connect Banaras-Khajuraho, Lucknow-Saharanpur, Firozpur-Delhi, and Ernakulam-Bengaluru, significantly improving regional connectivity across North and South India.
Addressing the gathering after the flag-off, Prime Minister Modi said the Vande Bharat Express has become a symbol of self-reliant India (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) and reflects the nation’s technological progress in the transportation sector.
“Every new Vande Bharat train strengthens our resolve for modern, comfortable, and fast travel. These trains are not just about speed — they are about connecting aspirations across India,” he said.
New Routes to Boost Regional Connectivity
The four new routes have been strategically selected to link major cultural, industrial, and educational centers:
· 🟦 Banaras–Khajuraho Vande Bharat Express: To promote tourism between two heritage-rich destinations.
· 🟩 Lucknow–Saharanpur Vande Bharat Express: To enhance connectivity within Uttar Pradesh and improve access for commuters in western UP.
· 🟥 Firozpur–Delhi Vande Bharat Express: To strengthen trade and travel links between Punjab and the national capital.
· 🟨 Ernakulam–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express: To provide faster travel between Kerala and Karnataka’s key economic hubs.
Railway officials said that the new trains are equipped with the latest safety and passenger comfort features, including improved seating, upgraded infotainment systems, and advanced signaling technology.
Transforming Indian Railways
Since its introduction in 2019, the Vande Bharat Express has become one of India’s flagship train services, known for its speed, safety, and comfort. With the latest addition, the number of operational Vande Bharat routes across India continues to rise, covering nearly all major states.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the expansion of the network reflects the government’s goal of providing world-class travel experiences while promoting domestic manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Public Reaction and Future Plans
Passengers and local residents gathered at Banaras station to witness the inauguration, waving flags and cheering as the sleek white-and-blue trains began their first journeys.
The Indian Railways is expected to launch more such trains in the coming months, with plans to connect every major city through the Vande Bharat network by 2026.
