Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1971 India-Pakistan War, which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The tribute was part of the annual Martyrs’ Day observance held at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
In his address, PM Modi highlighted the courage, sacrifice, and strategic brilliance of the armed forces, calling the 1971 war a defining moment in India’s history. “Their dedication and bravery remind us of the true spirit of our nation. We bow to their courage and commitment,” he said.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of remembering and celebrating the valor of our soldiers, noting that their sacrifices not only safeguarded India’s borders but also contributed to regional peace and stability. He urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from these heroes and uphold the values of patriotism and service to the nation.
The ceremony included the laying of wreaths, a two-minute silence, and ceremonial guard marches. Senior military officials, defense ministers, and members of paramilitary forces were present, paying respects to the soldiers who fought in the conflict.
PM Modi’s tribute comes at a time when the government is also focusing on strengthening defense capabilities and honouring veterans through welfare schemes and commemorative initiatives. The 1971 war remains a symbol of India’s resilience, unity, and military excellence, remembered across the country every year with deep reverence.
