Priya Kapur Steps Into Leadership Role at Late Husband Sunjay Kapur’s Sona Comstar

During her two-day visit, Priya engaged with the leadership team, toured the factory, and interacted with employees. She also paused at a tree planted by Sunjay in 2002, reflecting on the company’s legacy. “Spent two enriching days with our leadership team at Sona Comstar’s Chennai plant and R&D centre, walking the shop floor, meeting the people, and witnessing the journey that keeps this place growing,” she wrote.
She praised the employees’ dedication and the spirit of innovation she witnessed. “Speaking with engineers who perfect even the smallest details and build their own in-house machines, I was reminded that progress isn’t just about technology—it’s about people, their passion, and perseverance. As Sunjay always said, ‘In the pursuit of excellence,’ true success is driven by purpose and determination,” Priya noted.
Reflecting on her own leadership philosophy, she added, “Leadership is less about giving instructions and more about being present—listening, learning, and caring for your team. When leaders invest in their people, quality, innovation, and growth naturally follow. Technology defines what we do, but people define who we are.”
Priya’s post comes after she assumed a formal role as Additional Non-Executive Director at Sona Comstar following Sunjay’s passing in June. Since then, she has gradually taken on greater responsibilities, ensuring the company continues to thrive.
Meanwhile, the Kapoor family is in the midst of a legal dispute. Karisma Kapoor’s children have filed a suit at the Delhi High Court, contesting the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s Will and seeking a share of his personal assets. The children claim their late father had assured them of certain entitlements that are missing from the final document.
Sunjay Kapur, who chaired Sona Comstar and was a prominent figure in the auto industry, passed away in London while playing polo. He had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor (2003–2016) before marrying Priya in 2017.
