‘Put Duties First for Viksit Bharat’: PM Modi’s Message to Citizens on Constitution Day 2025
On India’s 76th Constitution Day, the Prime Minister calls on citizens to strengthen democracy through duty, participation, and national resolve
New Delhi:
Marking India’s 76th Constitution Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a heartfelt letter urging citizens to place their duties above all and channel their collective energy towards building a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The letter highlights civic responsibility—especially voting, youth participation, and adherence to constitutional values—as essential pillars for India’s future.
“Every action of ours should strengthen the Constitution and further national goals and interests,” the Prime Minister wrote, emphasizing that fulfilling one’s duties is central to national progress.
“The Constitution Empowered a Person Like Me”
PM Modi reflected on his own journey, stating that it was the strength of the Constitution that allowed someone from a “humble and economically disadvantaged family” to serve as the Head of Government.
He recalled two symbolic moments—bowing at the steps of Parliament in 2014 and placing the Constitution on his forehead in 2019—as personal expressions of reverence for India’s democratic framework.
Tribute to the Makers of the Constitution
The Prime Minister paid homage to the architects of the Constitution, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and the women members of the Constituent Assembly, whose “visionary perspectives and thoughtful interventions” shaped a document that continues to guide the nation.
A Constitution Day Marked by Historic Anniversaries
This year’s Constitution Day holds added significance as it coincides with several major national milestones:
· 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
· 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda
· 150 years of Vande Mataram
· 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur
These commemorations, PM Modi said, reinforce the “primacy of our duties,” as enshrined in Article 51A.
Voting as a Core Duty
In a strong push for broader public engagement, the Prime Minister urged citizens to treat voting as a sacred civic duty.
“As citizens, it is our duty to never miss the opportunity to vote,” he wrote.
PM Modi proposed that special ceremonies be held in schools and colleges every November 26 to honour first-time voters, encouraging youth to participate actively in democracy.
Shaping India’s Next Quarter-Century
With India approaching monumental milestones—the centenary of Independence in 2047 and the 100th year of the Constitution in 2049—the Prime Minister noted that the decisions made today will “shape the lives of generations to come.”
As the nation reflects on its constitutional journey, PM Modi’s message calls on every citizen to strengthen India’s democratic fabric through commitment, responsibility, and a shared vision of a developed India.
