“Starlink Clarifies India Pricing After Website Glitch Reveals Test Data”

SpaceX’s satellite-internet service Starlink has issued a clarification regarding its pricing in India after a brief website glitch displayed what appeared to be official subscription rates. The company confirmed that the figures shown online—including the monthly tariff and hardware cost—were “dummy test data” and not the final pricing for the Indian market.

Earlier this week, users spotted a pricing page listing the Starlink Residential plan at ₹8,600 per month along with a one-time hardware fee of around ₹34,000. The page also referenced features such as unlimited data, plug-and-play installation, weather-resilient connectivity, and a 30-day free trial period. However, Starlink quickly removed the information and clarified that these numbers were published accidentally.

According to the company, no official pricing has been announced for India, as regulatory approvals—including licensing and spectrum-related permissions—are still pending. Starlink emphasized that it is not yet accepting customer orders in the country.

Despite the confusion, the temporary listing offered insight into the potential pricing framework Starlink may adopt. The revealed structure suggested a premium-tier satellite service aimed at regions where traditional broadband and 5G networks remain unavailable or unreliable. Starlink’s India entry is expected to target rural and remote communities, where digital connectivity gaps persist despite rapid telecom expansion.

Market analysts note that even if the accidentally published figures were indicative, the service would remain significantly more expensive than most Indian broadband offerings. Competing terrestrial broadband packages typically range from ₹500 to ₹1,500 per month in urban areas—far below the provisional Starlink tariff.

With India pushing toward universal digital access, Starlink’s eventual launch could become a transformative option for underserved regions. However, until official pricing is released and regulatory clearance is granted, consumers will need to wait for accurate details on costs and availability.
