Trump Says U.S. Getting Close to Reaching a Trade Deal With India

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office during the swearing-in of his new Envoy to India, Sergio Gor, Trump said,

“We’re getting close. We’re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal. We’re making a deal with India, a much different deal than we had in the past.”

According to Trump, the proposed agreement will broaden cooperation across strategic sectors, including defense manufacturing, energy, and technology.
The deal reportedly aims to boost U.S. energy exports to India and open Indian markets further for American goods while supporting bilateral security coordination in the Indo-Pacific region.

Trade analysts say that the U.S. and India have been working for months on a framework that could replace earlier tariff disputes and streamline business regulations for both countries.

“The goal is to create a win-win environment for American energy producers and Indian industries that rely on stable imports,” said a senior trade official familiar with the discussions.
