Trump Signs Bill Ending Longest US Government Shutdown
US President Donald Trump signed the federal funding bill on Wednesday evening, officially ending the 43-day government shutdown, the longest in US history.
During the signing, Trump blamed Democrats for the disruption, saying the shutdown caused 20,000 flights to be delayed or canceled and left more than 1 million federal employees without pay. He also noted that millions of Americans relying on food assistance programs faced interruptions, and tens of thousands of federal contractors and small businesses went unpaid.
The shutdown affected operations across federal agencies, with essential personnel such as air traffic controllers and TSA agents continuing to work without pay. Airlines reported widespread flight delays, particularly at major hubs, as staffing shortages disrupted schedules.
Trump characterized the shutdown as “massive harm” inflicted by Democrats and emphasized the need to restart government operations promptly. Federal employees are expected to receive back pay in the coming days, and federal agencies are gradually resuming normal functions.
