“Who Killed Our Children?” Parents React as ‘House of Horrors’ Convict Surinder Koli Acquitted
Nearly two decades after the shocking discovery of 19 bodies of women and children near a Noida bungalow dubbed India’s “house of horrors,” the case has resurfaced in national headlines. Surinder Koli, the last of two men convicted in the case, was acquitted by the Supreme Court on November 12, accepting his claim that his confessions—including admissions of cannibalism and necrophilia—were obtained under torture.
The grim case dates back to December 2006, when police identified a bungalow in the affluent suburb of Noida as the site of multiple murders and sexual assaults. Businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant, Surinder Koli, were arrested after body parts were found near their home. The revelations sparked nationwide outrage, especially as many victims were children from neighboring slums in Nithari, highlighting stark social and economic divides.
Moninder Singh Pandher was released in 2023 after courts found insufficient evidence. Now, with Koli also walking free, parents of the victims are left demanding answers, asking, “Who killed our children?” The case, infamous for its brutality, underscores enduring questions about police negligence, judicial accountability, and protection of marginalized communities in India.
The Supreme Court’s acquittal has reignited debates on the reliability of confessions obtained under duress and the challenges of achieving justice in high-profile criminal cases.
