Fake LLB Degree Case: 105 Lawyers Under Scanner, FIRs Filed Against 39 in Prayagraj

A major controversy involving alleged fake LLB degrees and marksheets has emerged in Prayagraj, raising serious questions about the verification process for lawyers. Following a complaint by the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, police have begun action against 105 lawyers who are allegedly accused of using forged LLB marksheets to obtain enrollment with the Bar Council and Certificates of Practice (COP).

According to the police, FIRs have been registered against 39 lawyers over the past three days. Civil Lines police station in-charge Ramashray Yadav said that RK Shukla, secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, submitted a formal complaint against 105 lawyers. Police have indicated that cases against the remaining accused may also be registered within the next one or two days.

Why Were 105 Lawyers Reported?

According to the complaint, the 105 lawyers allegedly used fake LLB marksheets to obtain enrollment and later secure Certificates of Practice. These certificates allowed them to practice law.

The police are now examining the documents and records submitted by the lawyers. The investigation is still at an early stage, and the allegations against each individual will need to be verified separately.

University Verification Raised Questions

One of the cases mentioned in the FIR involves Saharanpur resident Deepak Kashyap. According to the complaint, the degree submitted by Kashyap while applying for a Certificate of Practice was sent to Shridhar University in Pilani, Rajasthan, for verification.

The university allegedly informed the authorities that the photocopy of the marksheet submitted for verification was fake. Following the verification, police action was initiated against Kashyap.

Allahabad High Court Order Also Mentioned

The FIR registered against Deepak Kashyap also reportedly refers to an Allahabad High Court order dated June 3. According to the report, the court had directed that FIRs be registered against lawyers registered with the Bar Council whose degrees were found to be fake during verification.

Police have registered a case against Kashyap under Sections 318(4), 338, 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

What Happens Next?

Police are expected to investigate all 105 names mentioned in the Bar Council's complaint and verify their educational documents and enrollment records. FIRs have already been filed against 39 people, while cases against the remaining individuals may follow shortly.

However, an FIR itself does not establish guilt. The allegations against each lawyer will have to be examined through investigation, document verification and the subsequent legal process.

The case is significant because the authenticity of educational qualifications and professional registration is directly linked to public trust in the legal system.
