Golf Star Gets Comical $0 Check After Failing to Score in Skins Game Comeback

The Skins Game made its long-awaited return on Friday—its first edition since 2008—and while some golfers walked away with massive payouts, one player left with a hilarious reminder of his tough day on the course: a check for $0.

The event brought together four Ryder Cup stars from September’s competition: Keegan Bradley and Xander Schauffele representing the United States, and Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry from Team Europe. Lowry famously secured Europe’s retention of the cup with his putt on the 18th at Bethpage Black.

Bradley scores big, Fleetwood close behind

Keegan Bradley dominated the day, earning $2.1 million—including a massive $900,000 prize for a birdie on the par-3 12th at Panther National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. That payout briefly set a new Skins Game record until Tommy Fleetwood surpassed it by winning $1.25 million just three holes later.

Bradley finished with 11 skins, nine of which came from two key holes, while Fleetwood ended with $1.7 million in total winnings. Shane Lowry collected $200,000.

Schauffele, however, didn’t win a single skin.

Schauffele gifted a $0 check—and laughs it off

At the conclusion of the match, each golfer received an oversized check to commemorate their winnings. Even though Schauffele earned nothing, he still received a check—one boldly printed with “zero dollars.”

He took the joke in stride.

“This is actually the first check I’ve ever gotten,” Schauffele joked. “I’m gonna frame this in the living room. That’s motivation. Probably the last Skins Game I ever play, to be honest.”

How the format works

In this revived version of the Skins Game, players began with $1 million each. Prize money was deducted from their totals whenever another competitor claimed a skin—leading to dramatic swings and big-money moments throughout the round.

The light-hearted finish, complete with a zero-dollar check, added humor to a day filled with major payouts and intense Ryder Cup-caliber golf.
