Cinema fans have a reason to celebrate as Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are set to share the screen again after decades. The official announcement was made by Kamal Haasan on Wednesday evening through his social media, revealing not only the star cast but also the director and release date.

Sundar C to Direct the Mega Project

Contrary to fan predictions favoring Lokesh Kanagaraj or Nelson Dilipkumar, the film will be helmed by Sundar C. Kamal Haasan shared a handwritten note on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Like wind, like rain, like river. Let's shower, let's enjoy, let's live! Superstar Rajinikanth will star in the movie directed by Sundar C and produced by Raaj Kamal Films International. #Thalaivar173 #Pongal2027.”

The announcement also celebrated the decades-long friendship between the two legends:

“This landmark collaboration not only unites two towering forces of Indian cinema but also celebrates five decades of friendship and brotherhood between Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan – a bond that continues to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike.”

This will mark Rajinikanth’s 173rd film, set for release during Pongal 2027 through Red Giant Movies.
