The operation followed a complaint filed by a local resident who was allegedly duped after being lured into a fake investment scheme promising high returns.
According to investigators, the accused used social media platforms and messaging apps to target victims, posing as representatives of a fictitious investment company. Victims were persuaded to transfer money in multiple transactions, believing they were investing in legitimate stock market opportunities.
Police revealed that the fraud was not limited to a single case, with financial transactions connected to the accused tracing back to a larger network involving nearly ₹68 lakh across multiple states. The money was routed through mule bank accounts and withdrawn via ATMs to avoid detection.
Using technical surveillance, call data analysis, and coordination with banks, authorities tracked the suspects and uncovered the operational structure of the racket. Officials stated that such scams are increasingly sophisticated, often involving fake identities, forged documents, and layered financial transactions.
Cybercrime experts warn that online investment scams have seen a sharp rise in recent years, with fraudsters exploiting digital platforms and investor greed by offering unrealistic returns. Police have urged citizens to verify investment platforms and avoid transferring money without proper authentication.
Further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and recover the defrauded amount.
