North India Swelters Under Intense Heatwave as Mercury Surges Past 42°C

States including Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are witnessing scorching daytime temperatures, accompanied by hot, dry winds known as ‘loo’. The extreme heat has led to a sharp rise in heat-related illnesses, prompting authorities to advise limited outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

Weather experts attribute the intense heatwave to dry northwesterly winds and clear skies, which are allowing temperatures to climb steadily. The situation is expected to persist over the next few days, with forecasts indicating a further increase of 2–3°C in some areas.

While northern regions continue to battle the heat, parts of eastern and central India may experience relief in the form of thunderstorms and gusty winds. However, these localized weather changes are unlikely to significantly impact the overall heatwave conditions in the north.

Officials have urged citizens to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. The ongoing heatwave highlights growing concerns over extreme weather patterns and the need for increased preparedness as summer intensifies.
