Thai Woman Saved from Cremation After Knocking Heard from Coffin
In a startling incident at a Buddhist temple on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, a 65-year-old woman thought to be dead was discovered alive just moments before her cremation. Temple staff at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham heard faint knocks from the coffin, prompting them to open it and find the woman conscious and alert.
Pairat Soodthoop, the temple’s general manager, said he was “startled” when he noticed the woman “opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin.” The woman’s brother had been told by local officials that she had died, though no death certificate had been issued.
Once her condition was identified, the temple’s abbot immediately arranged for her to be rushed to a hospital. Doctors later confirmed that the woman had been suffering from severe hypoglycaemia, a critical drop in blood sugar, ruling out cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
The woman had been bedridden for the past two years, and her family had traveled nearly 500 km (311 miles) from Phitsanulok Province for the cremation ceremony. The miraculous discovery has sparked both relief and widespread attention, highlighting the importance of careful medical verification before declaring a person deceased.
